School catchment questions

What is a school catchment in Queensland?
A catchment is the area a Queensland state school is required to enrol students from. Children who live inside it have a right to enrol at that school. Primary, junior secondary (Years 7–10) and senior secondary (Years 11–12) schools each have their own catchment.
Does living in a catchment guarantee a place at the school?
Living inside a catchment gives a child the right to enrol, but schools can still run enrolment management plans when they are full, so families should confirm with the school before relying on a catchment.
Do private or selective schools have catchments?
No. Only Queensland state schools have catchments. Catholic, independent and selective schools enrol without a zone, so they don't appear in this finder.
Why does the finder say a suburb is only partly in a catchment?
Catchment boundaries follow streets, not suburb lines. If a catchment overlaps a suburb without covering its centre, the finder shows it as part of the suburb. Check the exact street address with the school or on the Department of Education's EdMap.
How often do school catchments change?
The Department of Education reviews and updates catchment boundaries from time to time. This page uses the latest boundaries in the Queensland Government open data and is refreshed about once a year.
